Domain Contact information

What is domain contact information?

Every domain may be looked up in a public system called Whois. Different domains show different amounts of information, but the common domains include complete name, address, phone, and email for the owner and other contacts.

Most include three contacts:

Registrant - The owner of the domain, who has rights to use the domain.

Administrative - Responsible for non-technical matters such as change in ownership, legal issues, etc.

Technical - Technical matters such as DNS. We normally enter prxy as the technical contact, but you may change this if you prefer your own technical contact.

Be sure you only put trusted individuals and contact information in the Registrant and Administrative contacts!

If you wish to hide your contact information, we offer a privacy service called ID Protect. You may order this for most domains, though some (such as .us) do not allow anonymous information.

Restrictions after changing contact information

All gTLD (non-country code) domains must follow the Transfer Policy as mandated by ICANN to all accredited registrars.

A material change to the registrant’s name, organization, or email address (such as when while transferring ownership of a domain, or simply updating contact information) will trigger the Change of Registrant process.

The change will be auto-approved and confirmation will be emailed to all parties. The domain will then be placed in a 60-day transfer lock.

How to update contact information

To update the contact information for most domains, please:
  1. Log in to your billing/domain management account
  2. Select menu Domain Services item Manage Domains
  3. Click the M icon under your domain
  4. Click Contact Information from the menu on the left.
  5. Update your contact information:
  6. Enter your current information under Registrant Contact Info and then click the radio button Use Registrant Information for Admin Contact Info and Billing Contact Info.
NOTE: You may leave our information for Technical Contact Info or it is fine to change that to your own info if you prefer. The technical contact is typically used by people who want to contact someone regarding DNS technical issues or sometimes regarding web or email hosting. This contact has no authority regarding the ownership of the domain.
  7. Click the Submit button at the bottom.
If you change an email address, that address will receive a confirmation email. You must click the link in that email to validate the email address or the domain will be suspended.

Some country code domains (two letter extensions) require that we update the information for you, or that you create accounts on the registry system. Please contact us support@prxy.com if you have difficulty updating contact information on your country code domain.
