In September 2023, Microsoft began to transition users into "New Outlook", and began calling the older versions of the desktop Outlook client "Outlook Classic". New Outlook is now provided as the default mail program for new Windows 11 computers, fully replacing the previous native mail application "Windows Mail". New Outlook is also offered to Outlook Classic users, and is sometimes applied automatically during system updates.
Unfortunately, New Outlook does not support many features of Classic Outlook, including some which are necessary for the Zimbra Connector for Outlook to function. You can connect your prxy email to New Outlook using IMAP, but IMAP will only sync email. In order to use the ZCO to maintain sync with email, contacts, and calendars, you will need to revert to Classic Outlook. If your computer is newer, you may need to install Classic Outlook first.
If you had Classic Outlook installed, and then updated to New Outlook, there should be a toggle to switch between them at the top right of the Outlook window. Use that toggle to select "Classic Outlook".
If you have never launched Outlook before on this computer, or do not see the toggle on the top right of the Outlook window, follow the instructions below to switch to Classic Outlook:
1. Visit the address below and click on the Download link, then run the Office installer that is downloaded:
2. If you are already logged in to the MS365 account that contains your Microsoft Apps license, it should detect it automatically. Otherwise, you will need to enter the email address and password associated with your Microsoft account to activate the software.
3. Once Outlook Classic is installed, make sure that all versions of Outlook (both New and Classic) are closed. Then, go to https://my.prxy.com/download/category/2/Outlook.html and download the 64-bit version of ZCO.
4. Run the ZCO installer that you downloaded in step 3. Windows will object to it, select "More info" and then "Run anyway" on the window that pops up. Also select "yes" when User Account Control pops up.
5. Once ZCO is installed, launch Classic Outlook. The icon for Classic Outlook is more square than New Outlook.
6. Outlook will ask you to select a profile, with the profile "prxy" already displayed, just press OK.
7. A pop-up window will appear with some stuff already filled in, go to the bottom two text entry boxes and enter your full email address and email password, then press OK.
8. (Optional) Pin Outlook Classic to your taskbar, and unpin New Outlook, to avoid confusion in the future.
